On Monday, May 12th, Avelo Airlines will begin deportation flights out of Mesa Gateway Airport and we’ll be there to let them know how we feel about these inhumane, often illegal deportations. Please join us, bring your signs and flags, and make some noise.
Date/Location
Monday, May 12th, 2025 from 9:00-11:00am. We will be congregating on the southeast and southwest corners of Ray and Sossaman Roads. This is just up the street from the terminal and is a busy thoroughfare seen by all who head to the airport.
Guidelines
Our goal is to raise awareness respectfully and non-violently. Please read and follow these guidelines to ensure a safe and impactful demonstration:
* Stay on Public Property: Please remain on sidewalks and avoid the gravel and new landscaping at the intersection. So that our signage is readable, please spread out and keep sidewalk squares to 1-2 people.
* Be Aware of Your Surroundings: Pay attention to traffic and any potential hazards. Stay with the group and look out for one another.
* We expect it to be in the high 90’s. Hydrate early and often and bring extra water. Dress comfortably for the weather and don’t forget a hat and sunscreen. We will have water and a first aid kit for those who may need it - look for the blue wagon.
* Ignore Provocations: Counter-protesters may try to elicit a reaction. Do not engage with them. Simply ignore them and continue with the peaceful demonstration. Do not touch or engage in any physical contact with counter-protesters, law enforcement, or passersby, even if provoked.
Parking
Parking is available for free in the airport Cell Phone lot - just next to our protest. If that fills up, you can park in economy parking just east of the intersection. This lot is $1.00 per half hour. Additionally, there are several shopping centers near Ray and Power Roads with ample parking - (be aware of any signage that says parking is strictly for customers only).
What to bring?
Your signs, your passion, and your voice! There will be news outlets covering the protest so put your best foot forward!
Lunch
For those that are able to join us, we plan to meet at Barrio Brewing for lunch right after the protest. This will be a great time to meet your fellow like-minded neighbors who have a heart for our community.
